Overview

Leave Lerwick and head North on this tour, drive through the peat and heather covered heart of the Shetland landscape to the picturesque community of Voe, with its Scandinavian influence. Pass through Brae, the largest community in the North Mainland.

It’s then onto ferry crossing which, will take you to Yell, Shetland’s second largest island. The geology and landscape will vary greatly in both Yell and Unst, with some outstanding vistas of land and sea. We will take the coastal route through Yell and call along the Old Haa, a former merchant's house, to view the exhibits and have morning coffee (included).

Continue up through Yell to the second ferry crossing which will take you into Unst, Britain’s most northerly inhabited island. Travel to Haroldswick, where we will spend most of the day at the Unst Heritage Centre and North Unst Public Hall for demonstrations of spinning and “makkin”. Unst is famous for its lace knitting, there will be exhibits to see. Lunch will be provided. Afterwards, climb Saxa Vord hill to view Muckle Flugga Lighthouse (weather permitting), Britain’s most northerly point. Depart for Belmont via Skidbladner, a replica Viking longship and Bobby’s Bus Shelter. Hear more of Shetland`s culture and heritage from your qualified local guide, on your return journey to Lerwick.
