Departure Details
9.30am = Depart Shetland Museum and Archives Car Park (please arrive 5 minutes before departure.)
The tour will return there at 4pm.
Overview
On our tour today, we will head to the south mainland of Shetland, taking in some scenic photostops along the way.
We will walk to St Ninian's Isle, to visit the site where the St Ninian's Isle treasure was discovered in the 1950's (weather and tides permitting).
After our walk, we will continue further south, stopping at Europe's most important archaeological site, Jarlshof, where you will see over 5,000 years of Shetland's history in one site.
We will have lunch in the Sumburgh Hotel before making our way to the Crofthouse Museum. Here you will see what life would have been like for Shetlanders in the 1800's. You also get to see some of the tools they would have used for knitting and every day life.
On our return to Lerwick, call along the hamlet of Hoswick, where we will have afternoon coffee. View the exhibits in the Hoswick Visitor centre and have time to shop in their gift shop and the nearby knitwear stores, Nielanell and Shetland Woollen Co and local jeweller, Karlin Anderson.
