Green Badge Tourist Guide for Shetland
Have you ever thought about becoming a tour guide for Shetland? Would you like to get paid to show visitors around our lovely islands? Do you want to become part of a large network of tourists guides throughout Shetland and Scotland, accredited by the Scottish Tourist Guide Association? If you answered yes to any of those questions, please consider training to become a Green Badge Tourist Guide.
Island Vista are pleased to be the trainers for the STGA accredited Green Badge course in Shetland. Over 8 months, we'll show you the best of what Shetland has to offer and how to present it to our guests in a way that will give them an unforgettable experience.
As a self-employed tour guide, we have the pleasure of seeing Shetland through our visitors’ eyes and it is such a delight to hear guests tell us “you are so lucky to live where you do”. We already knew that but it’s nice to hear it anyway.
Our job is to interpret the culture and heritage of Shetland and put this across to our guests in a way that will enhance their time in Shetland, which may only be a few hours if they are visiting by cruise ship. You may well be the only local person they meet so you will act as an ambassador for Shetland.
Training will cover a wide range of topics: archaeology, geology, wildlife, tourism, fishing, economy, to name just a few but we will also train you how to be a good guide, giving you the necessary skills to give good commentary to guests, how care for your guests and how to administer yourself as a self-employed guide.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we would be looking to train next in the winter of 2023/2024 TBD. Attendance for the course is 100% and finishes with a two-day exam and some written assessments.
If you wish to express a no obligation interest in doing the training, please contact us. We will add you to the waiting list and send you more information when available.
